I woke up early and found my way to the Observation Lounge. The only thing to observe was jagged mountainous islands off our starboard side, then they disappeared. The rest of the morning was filled with breakfast and going to the history lecture on the Falkland Islands. Peter Damisch, our historian, discussed the multiple influences of these islands. England, Spain, France and Argentina have all had their hands in the development of the islands. Today the islands have a population of 3000.
Going back to the cabin, Betty and I had a big giggle over the Pillow Butler flyer I found by my bed. Our Pillow Menu includes: the popular pillow, the prominent pillow, the pronounced pillow, the memory foam pillow, the buckwheat pillow, the body pillow, the aqua plush pillow, the Fairfax polyester pillow and the Tiara cottons and silks covers. Who knew there were so many to offer. We may call for the pillow butler just to see each variety!
We had lunch and at 2pm we had a mandatory IAATO meeting in the theatre where everyone was checked off on safety procedures in Antarctic regions. At dinner, with Arlene & Marc, Brayden & Ralph, Betty and myself, we all enjoyed the Captain’s Welcome Aboard Dinner of caviar and lobster. We viewed gorgeous white cliffs as porpoise and penguins made their way through the waters. Everyone ran from their tables to the windows to view the sights. Our first wildlife was seen and our excitement rose. We spent a peaceful night in Coffin’s Harbor with no rocking. It may be our last for many, many nights.
